Hello citizens,
I slept in this morning and didn't leave my hotel in Escanaba until 9:00. This is my last full day in Michigan as I will be driving home tomorrow. It was another picture perfect day weather wise. I didn't see a whole lot during today's travels, this was mainly a travel day covering about 325 miles. I did make three stops. The first of which was just a photo quickie in Manistique. That's the Manistique East Breakwater Lighthouse in the picture below.
About twenty miles from there I visited my last lighthouse of the trip. It was a nice one. It's the Seul Choix Pointe Lighthouse.
The Seul Choix Pointe Lighthouse is located in the northwest corner of Lake Michigan in Schoolcraft County, Michigan. This location is the only harbor of refuge along a treacherous stretch of coast. Its French name is "only choice", suggesting that it was used as a refuge by the early French traders in this area. The station was established in 1892 with a temporary light, and this light started service in 1895, and was fully automated in 1972. It is an active aid to navigation.
My last stop of the day was back in St. Ignace. I stopped at the Father Marquette Memorial where you get a nice view of the Mackinac Bridge. I was there on a beautiful Saturday afternoon and there was literally no one there. Below is my last picture of the bridge.
Next it was a 160 mile / 2 hour drive south on Interstate 75 and U.S. 127 to Mount Pleasant. I checked into the Courtyard hotel. This hotel is the first one all trip that finally folded the toilet paper into a point.
My room on the fifth floor has a balcony overlooking the stadium of Central Michigan University.
Tonight after getting settled at the hotel I retrieved my dinner from the Texas Roadhouse directly across the street. The food was very good as usual, but they made a couple mistakes. It's been a fun trip, despite a couple mishaps like drowning my expensive camera. The replacement scooter seems to be working fine. I probably won't send an email tomorrow as I don't plan on making any stops during the 343 mile trip home. Thanks for reading my emails.
So long for now,
Tim |
