FRIDAY, JULY 9, 2021:

Today I drove 250 miles traveling from Marquette, Michigan to Escanaba, Michigan.

It was another day of great weather today as I wrapped things up in the Upper Peninsula.
I drove 85 miles west of Marquette to Agate Falls Scenic Site.
The falls were almost impossible to see from this viewing area.
I certainly would not have stopped here had it not been on my way to my next stop.

Four minute video of the less than impressive Agate Falls.

Only 12 miles from disappointing Agate Falls is the spectacular Bond Falls.
In my opinion this is the most impressive waterfall in Michigan.
The main drop is 40 feet high and over 100 feet wide.

Six minute video of spectacular Bond Falls.

After leaving Bond Falls I started heading back east across the Upper Peninsula.
141 miles later I made it to the pretty little town of Gladstone.
Just south of Gladstone is the third largest city in the Upper Peninsula, Escanaba.

Ten minute video of Gladstone and Escanaba, Michigan.

MY DAILY EMAIL SENT ON JULY 9, 2021
Hello friends and family,

It was another absolutely gorgeous day here in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. I left Marquette around 8:00 this morning and drove about 85 miles west to my first stop of the day at Agate Falls Scenic Site. There was a nice wooded trail leading to the waterfall overlook. You could see small sections of the waterfall through the trees but that's about it. I'm not going to include a picture as they all look ridiculous. There's a video on my web site of these falls if you want to take a look.

My next stop was much more satisfying. It's the reason I drove over two hundred miles out of my way to come over here. Bond Falls was only 12 miles from Agate Falls and both are on the Ontonagon River. There is a nice full length video of this spectacular waterfall on the web site as well.

After Bond Falls I am now pretty much heading for home. Today I drove 140 miles southeast of the Falls to Escanaba, Michigan. It's located at the top of Lake Michigan. Before settling in to Escanaba for the night I drove a few miles north to the town of Gladstone. Below is a picture of their lighthouse and pretty harbor.

I then turned around and went back to Escanaba. Escanaba is the third largest city in the Upper Peninsula. It has a population around 13,000 people.

They have a very pretty restored lighthouse here in town which I of course had to go see. It is the Sand Point Lighthouse.

Next I made my way over to my hotel, the Comfort Suites here in Escanaba.

It's a standard room but very comfortable.

After getting settled in my accommodations I went out to get my dinner. I didn't notice any exciting choices in eateries. So I got my dinner from the establishment below.

Tomorrow I'll drive back over the Mackinac Bridge and head south across Michigan. I plan to spend the night in Mount Pleasant and then drive home on Sunday.

Happy trails to you and yours,

Tim
