JUNE 1996 I began my trip by flying to Los Angeles, California. I spent two nights in the Los Angeles area. Pictured above is a replica of the White House's Oval Office. I saw this during my visit to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley. It was a short drive to San Bernardino for my next nights stay. While here I traversed the scenic "Rim of the world drive" in the mountains north of the city. I visited Big Bear and Lake Arrowhead (pictured above) during my drive. Every trip west has to include at least a couple nights in Las Vegas. The picture above is looking north up Las Vegas Blvd toward the Sahara Hotel and the new Stratosphere Tower. The above photo is of the infamous Las Vegas Strip at night, taken from the top of the Stratosphere tower. After my two nights in Vegas it was on to St. George, Utah for one night. Pictured above is Snow Canyon State Park. Parks, Zion. After leaving the park I stopped in Kanab, Utah for a late lunch before ending the day in Page, Arizona. All of the photos in the above collage were taken during my two night stay in Page, Arizona. While there I took an all-day boat tour of Lake Powell and Glen Canyon. The highlight of the tour was a stop at Rainbow Bridge. Next it was a scenic drive to Moab, Utah. I passed through Monument Valley (pictured above) enroute. One of the most scenic vistas in all of Utah can be found at Dead Horse Point in a remote area west of Moab. Also in this area is Canyonlands National Park. The Colorado River cuts a scenic gorge near Moab. Pictured above is Four Corners National Monument. The only place in the U.S. where four states share a border. I spent one night in Cortez, Colorado. While here I visited Mesa Verde National Park. Next I spent two nights in Durango, Colorado. While here I road on the Durango-Silverton railroad. Pictured above is Silverton, Colorado. The train stopped here for a couple hours before heading back to Durango. I ate lunch at the Bent Elbow while in town. Next I spent one night in Holbrook, Arizona. I passed Shiprock, New Mexico (pictured above) enroute. While in Holbrook I visited The Petrified Forest National Park. Pictured above is The Painted Desert section.
Next I drove to Phoenix for a one night stay before flying home. I passed through the scenic Salt River Canyon (pictured above) on my drive to Pheonix. Click the banner below to check out my western adventure in June 2010
