Hello,

I kind of took it easy today. I didn't do much. I didn't even leave the hotel until almost 11:00. That's insanely late for me. I actually stayed long enough to eat my free breakfast for a change. When I finally did hit the road I headed south to the Provo Canyon. There I visited Bridal Veil Falls.

When I was here about thirty years ago there was a tramway that went up the hill beside the falls. When the tramway was in operation prior to the 1996 avalanche, it was heralded as the "world's steepest aerial tramway."

I also visited Robert Redford's Sundance, Utah. It's only about five miles from the falls.

There were actually three other things I wanted to do today. The Snowbird Tramway is closed for maintenance until June 7. I wanted to drive the Alpine Scenic Loop but it was closed. I knew it would be. It's been closed for years. I don't know if they ever intend to reopen it. I remember driving on it on that same trip 30 years ago. I also tried to go to Cascade Springs but my navigation kept telling me it was not possible to go there.

I did pass by the historic Tate Barn. The Tate Barn was restructured to stand as an iconic representation of the Heber Valley’s agricultural history as it was introduced to the world during the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. The original barn was erected in 1902 when Francis Tate, an English emigrant, established a dairy farm in the location. Tate used local red pine on a foundation of “pot rock” which was commonly used on structures in the area. The barn became part of Wasatch Mountain State Park in 1961. It was used for agricultural purposes but during the winter of 1996, the barn fell into disrepair as a result of heavy snow. A reconstructed barn similar to the original structure now stands in its place.

I'm spending the night at another Hyatt Place. This one is in downtown Provo.

I just got back from dinner at the local Sizzler. After two days here in the Salt Lake area it's back on the road tomorrow. Oh, I almost forgot. That KFC I ate at yesterday was the world's first Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant. Not to be confused with the KFC in Corbin, Kentucky. That was Colonel Sanders restaurant but it did not become a KFC until much later.
