THURSDAY, JULY 1, 2021:

Today I drove 87 miles traveling roundtrip from Ludington, Michigan.

Thursday was a nice relaxing day. The weather was beautiful and I didn't have to change hotels.
This morning I drove 31 miles south of Ludington to the Little Sable Point Lighthouse.
It's a beautiful lighthouse on a sandy beach and the short video below is well worth watching.

Watch the two minute video below of the Little Sable Point Lighthouse.

After leaving the lighthouse I drove back to Ludington where I spent the rest of the day.
I spent a lot of time in Waterfront Park. This picture perfect park nestled between two marinas has a
view of the carferry dock and since its unveiling in 1999 has been the focal point of the city of Ludington.
On the park's scenic pathways you can learn a bit of history from the nine bronzed sculptures
that are placed strategically throughout the five-acre park. After leaving the park I attempted to
journey out to the Breakwater Lighthouse. But due to the high wind the waves were wreaking havoc on
the breakwater. Not wanting to get drowned by water again I turned back before reaching the lighthouse.
Next I stopped to admire the flower-lined streets of the city and visited the Mason County Courthouse.
I returned to Waterfront Park this evening to watch the Badger return from it's daily run to Manitowoc.
Watch the video below to experience a relaxing day in this beautiful small town in Michigan.

MY DAILY EMAIL SENT ON JULY 1, 2021
Hello friends and family,

Today was a nice relaxing day. I got up late today since I didn't get last night's emails out until the wee small hours of the morning. I was going to go watch the S.S. Badger sail out this morning, but I didn't wake up in time. It was a beautiful day weather wise. Not a cloud in the sky and barely seventy degrees. The first thing I did was drive 30 miles south of Ludington to the Little Sable Point Lighthouse. This point was referred to by its French name Petite Pointe au Sablé, which translated means Little Sand Point.

This picturesque lighthouse is located in the Silver Lake State Park at the Silver Lake Sand Dunes. The lighthouse is a 107 foot high brick structure which was constructed in 1874. This lighthouse is one of the tallest in the state of Michigan at over 100 feet and 130 steps to climb the tower.

This is one of my favorite lighthouses so far. You can climb to the top. Unfortunately I could not do that due to the shortsightedness of its builders for not installing an elevator. Below is a picture of the beach and Lake Michigan from the lighthouse.

Next I drove back to Ludington where I spent the rest of the day. I visited Waterfront Park. We sailed right in front of it yesterday as it is adjacent to the ferry dock. Very pretty park along the harbor. Below you can see the "Reflections" sculpture, a Seventeen-foot stainless steel sail abstract.

Below I'm looking out toward the Ludington Breakwater Lighthouse.

Nine bronzed sculptures are scattered throughout the five-acre park. Not only are they fascinating to look at, but each one tells a story that relates to Ludington's rich history.

The Waterfront Sculpture Task Force worked with various artists in creating pieces that fit with the natural beauty of the park. The sculpture below is entitled "Fruits of Farming."

"Hooked on Hamlin" is a lifelike sculpture showing a man and boy with fishing poles, while the man takes a fish from the boy's hook. It's a representation of family and the special place that Hamlin Lake has in people’s hearts.

"Put me in Coach" is a crouched baseball player, bat in hand, which pays tribute to former ball players of the 1912-1924 semi-pro team, the Ludington Mariners.

One of the favorite sculptures in the park has five children and a dog playing "Follow the Leader" across stepping stones.

Next I visited the beach at Stearns Park here in Ludington. It was a little cool and windy. I couldn't believe people were actually going in the water.

From here I started my journey out to the Ludington Breakwater Lighthouse. It's a half mile out at the end of the breakwater. We sailed right in front of it last night.

I started to get splashed with some very cold water from the crashing waves. Then some people warned me that I would get drenched if I continued. I wasn't going through that again. My much loved camera is now lifeless and sitting in a sealed bag of rice due to my last soaking. So after getting about half way out I turned back.

These lakeside towns along Lake Michigan are very pretty. Here in Ludington the main street through town is lined with flowers.

Below is the Mason County Courthouse here in Ludington. It was built in 1893.

This evening I want back to Waterfront Park to watch the Badger come back from its daily trip to Manitowoc. I had to wait a little while as it was 45 minutes late tonight.

If this isn't the ugliest boat on the planet then I don't know what is. It was tying up at the dock in the picture below.

After I send this I'm going to pick up some dinner at the Culver's next door. I'm leaving Ludington in the morning.

Good night,

Tim
