Our first port came on day two of the cruise. It was a beautiful sunny day in Montevideo, Uruguay.
Montevideo is the largest city, the capital and chief port of Uruguay with a population around 1.3 million.
The epicenter of Montevideo's cultural life is located in the so-called Old City,
a place where the past and the present coexist among historical buildings, bookstores and the busy city life.

MY DAILY EMAIL SENT ON FEBRUARY 15, 2009
Greetings from Uruguay!

We sailed down the Rio de la Plata River from Buenos Aires last night. Uruguay is the second smallest country in South America. Today I spent the day in its capital and largest city, Montevideo. We docked this morning before sunrise. Got some much needed sleep last night. Could hardly stay awake for the sail away in Buenos Aires because of almost no sleep the night before.

This morning I took a Princess tour of the city. We visited Independence Square, the soccer stadium, the Parliament Building and got some nice views of the city from some scenic spots along the river. The tour ended around 1:00 and we didn't sail until 5:00 so I had time for a nice long walk around the city on my own. We are now sailing out the mouth of the river into the Atlantic Ocean. We are heading southeast toward the Falkland Islands, which is our next stop. But we have two sea days before we get there. We are supposed to have a nice warm sunny day tomorrow. The Captain told us to enjoy the warmth tomorrow because we would not see another one for almost two weeks.

I attached a picture of Montevideo as we were sailing away late this afternoon.

More Later,

Tim
