SATURDAY, JANUARY 13, 2007:
After fifteen fantastic days in Australia it was time to move on to New Zealand on Saturday.
I flew Jetstar Airways from Melbourne's International Airport to Christchurch's International Airport.
It was a gloomy afternoon but not enough rain to prevent me from walking around the city.
My Hotel, Rydges, was just off Cathedral Square, the focal point of this small city.
The beautiful Avon River runs through downtown Christchurch.

Hello Everyone, Not much to write about today. I flew from Melbourne to Christchurch this morning. Lost two hours on the way as we crossed two time zones. Arrived here in Christchurch shortly after 2:00 their time. It is a gloomy day here and misting a little rain, just as I remember New Zealand being from my brief previous encounter. Temperatures a lot cooler here, about 60. Walked around downtown Christchurch a bit but that's about it. My hotel is right off Cathedral Square along the Avon River. Last night after I wrote I walked down to the Rialto Tower again, but after dark this time. That is the attached picture for today. More later, Tim |
SUNDAY, JANUARY 14, 2007:
My hot air balloon trip across the Canterbury Plain was canceled due to heavy fog Sunday morning.
The fog cleared off late morning and I made my way down to the Christchurch Gondola.
