Hello People,
It's going to be a boring report today because both of the things that I was going to do today, I did not because they would have required me to walk more than five feet from the car. I left Las Vegas this morning after breakfast at the hotel. I drove down to Hoover Dam. The lousy picture below is the best I could get from the side of the road.
The last time I was here, about fifteen years ago, the highway just went over the top of the dam. That is no longer the case, there is now the bridge you see below.
When I flew over Hoover Dam in 2006 you could see them building this bridge. Of course Lake Mead is on the other side of the dam, which is what you see in the picture below.
Next I turned on to US93 and drove over that bridge. Several miles down the road I stopped at a scenic viewpoint on the side of the highway. That is the photo below.
My next stop on the schedule was the Grand Canyon Skywalk. That is about 80 miles from Hoover Dam. The picture below is another scenic viewpoint. It's about 20 miles from the skywalk.
When I got to the Skywalk there was this huge parking lot. I could tell that the walk just to get to the ticket counter was going to be too much. Honestly, it didn't take much to make me skip it. It is way over priced at over $80 and they don't even let you take pictures. They do this so you will have to pay them to take your picture. This place is on the Hualapai Indian Reservation and they are trying to squeeze every penny they can out of it. So I just turned around and left and drove 75 miles south to Kingman, Arizona. That is where I am spending the night at a hotel on historic Route 66.
Below is the train in Locomotive Park along Route 66.
Below is a diner along Route 66. I should have eaten there but there was a Five Guys in town so I had to eat there.
And below is the county court house here in Kingman.
Even though I didn't do a lot, it still took me all day to do it.
Until tomorrow,
Tim
