Hello everyone,
I am on the road again and starting my summer vacation. On Friday I flew to Denver, Colorado and then drove down to Colorado Springs to spend the weekend with my sister, Barbara. She has a very nice town home here.
On Saturday we took a drive over to Mount Evans, the highest mountain in Colorado. Below is a picture of my sister looking down on Echo Lake.
It was a beautiful drive to the top of the mountain. It was a steep climb with lots of hairpin turns and no guard rails. That wasn't my sister's favorite part of the day.
At over 12,000 feet we got to Summit Lake. This was a very beautiful area. Below is Barb again in front of the lake.
Lots of pretty wild flowers all around.
On the other side of Summit Lake you could look down on Chicago Lakes.
After Summit Lake we drove the rest of the way to the summit. Below is a picture from the top of Mount Evans at 14,260 feet.
We saw lots of mountain goats on the top.
Barb took these goat pictures, in my pictures all I seemed to get is their butts.
At about 1:00 the storm started to roll in.
So we started our trek back down the mountain.
We drove through a nice thick fog most of the way down.
When we got down it started to rain and looked really bleak. But by the time we got to Georgetown it had cleared up.
Georgetown is a neat little historic town surrounded by mountains right off I-70.
We had a delicious late lunch at the Happy Cooker.
It was about 4:00 now and we started heading back to Barb's which was about 140 miles away. It was on and off rain all the way back. Weather wasn't too bad as we got to Morrison so we drove through Red Rocks Park just outside of Denver.
That concluded our day. I will write more later,
Tim
