MY DAILY EMAIL SENT ON AUGUST 18, 2013
Hello everyone,

It was a nice sail out last night from Istanbul. It must have been a narrow passage most of the night as I could see lights on both sides very nearby for most of the night. We arrived in Kusadasi, Turkey at noon today. Below is a picture taken from my balcony as the Royal Princess backed into her berth.

The last time I was here was on the old Royal Princess. This is a very popular cruise port. Reason being the ancient city of Ephesus is only a few miles away. When I was here in October of 2009 I toured Ephesus. I saw no reason to do it again today in the nearly 100 degree heat. I waited for all the tour folk to get off the ship and then I got off too. I just walked around town. There are four cruise ships in town today. As you can see in the picture below all four berths are full.

I took a walk through Kusadasi's version of the Grand Bazaar. Stopped for some ice cream of course.

Below appears to be the town's largest square. None of the signs are in English and I can't read Turkish.

Below is a statue out along the harbor.

Kusadasi really is a pretty little town. I think it is almost totally dependant on tourism.

I was surprised it wasn't more uncomfortable walking around in this heat. I tried to stick to the shade as much a possible. It was definitely warm but not as oppressive as I thought it was going to be.

I walked around for about three hours. Stopping at a lot of shady benches along the way. This is probably way too many pictures of a place you most likely have never heard of. But I had plenty of time to photograph every corner of town. There was nothing else on the agenda for today.

The picture below was taken from my balcony after I got back on the ship. It overlooks the area that I had just walked through.

Very easy sail away tonight. One minute of thrusting off the berth and we were gone.

We are now sailing for Athens, Greece. We are supposed to arrive there at 9:00 tomorrow morning. I am about to go down to watch another of the big production shows. This is now the flagship for the cruise line. The entertainment on board has really been a step up from what I have experienced of past cruises. The new theater is really nice. Elaborate lighting and special effects.

Until tomorrow,

Tim
