Mulder and Scully were FBI agents charged with
investigating unsolved cases categorized as
"X-Files" by the bureau--those that dealt with
phenomena and situations that defied conventional
explanations. They investigated UFO sightings,
telepaths, genetically altered beings, aliens, a
mutant that surfaced from a cocoon every thirty
years to kill people, evil children resulting from
cloning, people with telekinetic powers, and a man-
sized parasite living in the Newark sewer system.
Unfortunately, at the end, the physical evidence
always slipped through their hands. Mulder, whose
sister had been the victom of an alien abduction,
was the true believer, while Scully, trained in
medicine and the physical sciences, was the skeptic.
