On Friday afternoon we flew from Puerto Iguazu, Argentina to Buenos Aires.
Buenos Aires is the capital and largest city of Argentina.
It is located on the southern shore of the Rio de la Plata.
Greater Buenos Aires is the third largest conurbation in Latin America,
with a population of around 13 million.
We arrived at the Panamericano Hotel in early evening.
Our hotel was nicely located directly across from the Obelisk.
I only had time to snap a couple pictures before it got dark.
Late that evening we had an Argentine beef dinner followed by a tango show.

Howdy!

Today we flew from Iguazu Falls to Buenos Aires. But we had to fly out of the airport on the Argentina side so we had to go through that hassle on the border for a third time. We landed at the smaller downtown airport and got to our hotel around 7:00. We are staying at a beautiful hotel in the center of town overlooking the main street. I have attached a photo. The Pan Americano Hotel where I am staying is just behind the monument on the right.

Buenos Aires

Have to make this email short. At 10:00pm we are going to dinner and a Tango Show. We won't get back until after 2:00am.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 2009:

On Saturday morning we had a tour of the city of Buenos Aires.
We only made a couple stops, Rocoleta Cemetery and the neighborhood of La Boca.

We saw the grave of Eva Peron in Recoleta Cemetery.
In La Boca you had to beat the peddlers off with a stick.

After our lackluster tour of the city it was time to board the Star Princess for our 16 day cruise.
We set sail at 5:30 P.M. and headed down the Rio de la Plata toward Montevideo.

Happy Valentines Day!

The six day land tour ended this afternoon when I boarded the Star Princess for my 16 day cruise. There are only four ports on the entire cruise. The highlight of this cruise is the scenic cruising of the Antarctic Peninsula, which takes four days, and then later Cape Horn and the Chilean Fjords.

This morning we said goodbye to our tour guides for the past six days, Zeca and Marcia, both from Brazil. The were both wonderful, as were the 90 people in the group. We became a family over the course of the tour. Now that we are on the ship it is nice seeing so many familiar faces. Before leaving Buenos Aires we had a three hour tour of the city. It wasn't a very good tour. Most of it was spent in the bus and when we did stop it was at tourist areas full of junk shops and peddlers wanting you to pay them to tango with you. The tour ended at the ship and we set sail a little late shortly before 6:00pm.

Below is a picture of Recoleta Cemetery, which I believe was our first stop. We visited the tomb of Eva Peron in this cemetery.

The next stop was in the neighborhood of La Boca. This was a tourist trap where you had to beat the peddlers off with a stick.

The picture below was also in La Boca.

I decided to try the Internet on the ship. Depending on how long it took I may continue to send more. Obviously I will not attempt to upload videos. It would probably take the rest of the cruise to upload one.

More later,
