SUNDAY, AUGUST 24, 2008:
We sailed into Civitavecchia shortly before dawn and it was about an hours drive to Rome.
Out first stop was at the Catacombs and it was on to the Colosseum from there.
Our next stop was at Trevi Fountain, we passed the Victoriano on the way.
We had a very nice lunch at a hotel in the center of Rome.
The restaurant was on the top floor and from the terrace there were nice views of the city.
Out last stop was at Saint Peter's Square in Vatican City.
We were able to walk around inside Saint Peter's Basilica.
The Papal Apartment is on the top floor, second from the right in center photo below.
Since this was August Pope Benedict XVI was at his summer residence at Castel Gandolfo.

We got back to Civitavecchia just in time to sail away to our next port.
