AUGUST  1993

It took about 18 hours for me to get to Hawaii. We had
about an hour weather delay while changing planes in Atlanta.

We also made a stop in Dallas, Texas before proceeding to
Honolulu. We got a nice view of downtown Dallas just
prior to landing, which is pictured above.

Shortly before landing in Honolulu we flew directly over
the island of Maui. Pictured above is Kahului, Hawaii.

I began my first day in Honolulu by taking in
the Kodak Hula Show.

KODAK HULA SHOW VIDEO

After the hula show I was itching to get out and explore
the island of Oahu. My first stop was Palea Point on
the southeast coast of Oahu.

It was a breathtaking drive along the coast.
The picture above was taken near Waimanalo Beach.

This stunning picture of the Honolulu skyline
was taken from Puu Ualakaa State Wayside.

On my second day in Honolulu I explored the western
side of the island. Pictured above is pineapple
growing at the Dole Plantation.

My next stop was Waimea Falls Park. The sun was badly
positioned for the above picture of the cliff diving show.

This is Waikiki Beach. To the extreme right of the picture
is Diamond Head. My hotel is the one directly in the center.

Above is a picture of Waikiki Beach just shortly after dusk.

I spent a total of six nights in Honolulu. One of my
last stops was the Polynesian Cultural Center.

It was on to the island of Kauai next. This is
Waimea Canyon on the west side of the island.

One of Hawaii's most breathtaking vistas can be found at
Kalalau Lookout on the northwest coast of Kauai.

On my second day on Kauai I visited the
beautiful Wailua River State Park.

Above is Kilauea Lighthouse which is
located on Kauai's northern shore.

It was on to the big island of Hawaii next.
Above is the Kona coast on the west side of the island.

I flew into Kona and then drove to the other side of the
island. Pictured above is Waipio Lookout on the northeast
coast of Hawaii. About half way between Kona and Hilo.

Akaka Falls State Park was a tropical paradise.

Above is Rainbow Falls in Wailuku River State Park.

The weather wasn't very good for my excursion to Hawaii
Volcanoes National Park. Above is a poor picture
of the Kilauea Caldera.

Maui was my fourth and final island of the trip.
Above is the Iao Needle just west of Wailuku.

This is the view from my hotel room balcony
at the Westin on Kaanapali Beach.

My final Hawaiian adventure was traversing the road to Hana.
It winds through heavily foliaged ravines, bamboo forests,
hamlets and fishing settlements. Many gorges and
waterfalls were visable from the roadway.

I returned to Hawaii in 2004, click the banner below to see that trip.
