AUGUST  1980

This is the first of 17 trips my brother Dan
and I would take between 1980 and 1992. We began
the trip by flying to Washington, D.C.

One of the first places we visited was the
Washington Monument. This 555 foot high marble
obelisk stands at the west end of the mall.

On the southest side of the tidal basin is the
Jefferson Memorial. Inside this circular domed
structure stands a heroic bronze statue
of Thomas Jefferson.

Pictured above is the Lincoln Memorial.
This stately marble structure stands just
before the approach to Arlington Memorial Bridge.

Located in Arlington National Cemetery is the
Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Striking in its
simplicity is one of the largest blocks of
marble ever quarried.

Mount Vernon is the estate and burial place of
George Washington. It is located at the southern
end of the George Washington Memorial Pkwy.
overlooking the Potomac River.

The United States Capitol is one of the nation's
most familiar landmarks. It is located at the
east end of the mall in a beautiful 221-acre park.

At 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue stands the White House.
Currently occupied by President Jimmy Carter.

After a few days in Washington we flew to
New York City for a couple days.

About the only thing we did in the big apple
was take the Circle Line cruise around Manhattan.
The above two pictures are of the Manhattan skyline.

Pictured above is the United Nations Building.
After New York we flew home ending our short trip.
