KATMAI NATIONAL PARK

On Tuesday I flew down to Katmai National Park with Rust's Flying Service.

It was a beautiful day for the long three hour flight to the park.

We flew to the park in a De Havilland Beaver, and our pilot Mark Stadsklev was outstanding.

Katmai is the least visited National Park in the country since the only way to get here is by seaplane.

The day started off slow, no bears, but finally we got to see what we had traveled so far to see.

Katmai National Park has the world's highest concentration of brown bears per square mile.

The bears come to feed on the fish, sometimes in unusually large concentrations.

The salmon were just starting to run so they weren't quite yet in abundant supply.

Mama kept her cubs safely down stream not wanting to get too close to the male in the falls.
