The Knik Glacier is located 50 miles east of Anchorage on the northern end of the Chugach Mountains.
The ice field averages over 25 miles long and over 5 miles across,
making it one of the largest glaciers in southcentral Alaska.

MY DAILY EMAIL SENT MONDAY, JUNE 25, 2007
Hello Everyone,

It's been raining since I arrived in Anchorage Saturday morning. It finally stopped about noon today. Today I went jet boating out to Knik Glacier.

The sun was finally out and it was a beautiful trip. It was about a 45 minute ride up the Knik River to the face of the glacier.

When we arrived out at the glacier we got out of the boat and hiked up a small hill for a fantastic view of the whole area.

Very quiet and peaceful out in the middle of nowhere with just three of us plus the two guides.

When we got back in the boat we slowly floated between the many icebergs for a while before throwing it back into gear and heading back down the river. I tried the get the pilot of the boat to do a few 360 degree spins like they do on the jet boats down in New Zealand but he claims this boat wasn't designed for that.

Late this afternoon I took a drive down the Seward Highway to Girdwood. It is a very scenic drive along Turnagain Arm south of Anchorage.

Below is Bird Point along Turnagain Arm.

Below is Bird Creek.

Below is McHugh Creek.

The clouds are hanging over Turnagain Arm in today's final picture below.
